Crunchyroll App Rolls Out on LG Smart TVs, Expanding Anime Streamer’s Distribution
LG Smart TV owners will now be able to watch thousands of English-dubbed or subtitled anime episodes with a Crunchyroll subscription.
There’s a brand-new way to watch the best anime content from around the world on the genre’s leading streaming service [Cruncyroll]! This week, the Sony-owned streamer is rolling out a new app specifically designed for the LG smart TV operating system, and owners of the brand’s devices can download the app now and start watching their favorite anime on the biggest screen in the house.
- Crunchyroll offers more than 46,000 episodes and movies.
- The app has expanded to multiple platforms in recent months, including Samsung Smart TVs and Prime Video Channels.
- The moves should help Crunchyroll expand its impressive customer base of 13 million subscribers.
LG sold more than 27 million smart TVs across the globe in 2022 alone, so Crunchyroll is clearly getting access to a platform with a huge customer base. Thanks to the new partnership between Crunchyroll and LG, owners of LG smart TVs can now watch the more than 46,000 anime episodes and movies that comprise the Crunchyroll library.
Cruncyroll also offers music videos, specials, awards shows and more on-demand content. It allows viewers to watch with subtitle and dubbing options across more than a dozen languages and has three subscription tiers for audiences to choose from. Viewers can pick the Fan tier for $7.99 per month to watch on one device or upgrade to the Mega Fan level for $9.99 to get access to four simultaneous streams, as well as the ability to download content for offline viewing. The Ultimate Fan plan boosts the price to $14.99 per month, but subscribers get an annual swag bag and six simultaneous streams for that price. All Crunchyroll tiers offer ad-free streaming.
Where Else Has Crunchyroll Expanded Recently?
Cruncyroll has been boosting its distribution quite effectively in recent months. The streamer struck a deal with Amazon to offer itself on the Prime Video Channels hub in October of 2023, gaining access to hundreds of millions of Amazon Prime and Prime Video subscribers.
Then in early February, the streamer came to Samsung Smart TVs, allowing owners of those devices to download and stream Crunchyroll for the first time. Samsung and LG are two of the biggest TV manufacturers in the world, so the addition of Crunchyroll to these devices plus Prime Video Channels exposes it to a huge subset of potential new subscribers.
That could aid Crunchyroll’s quest to grow its customer base beyond the 13 million subscribers it claimed in January of 2024. That’s already an impressive total considering Crunchyroll’s niche programming library, but it stands a good chance of expanding the number even further thanks to its rollout on LG smart TVs.
