Everything We Know So Far About ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 on Apple TV+

Everything We Know So Far About ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 on Apple TV+

Signs continue to point to a new season of “Ted Lasso,” despite initial reports that the show would only run for three years.

Ted Lasso Season 4 looks like an increasing possibility, we'll break down everything we know.

Keep tapping that “Believe” sign you’ve got taped up on the wall, “Ted Lasso” fans, because it appears to be working. The feel-good series centered on an English Premier League soccer team that brings on an American coach with a unique outlook on life is reportedly set to return for a fourth season, despite the initial plan for a three-year run. While there hasn’t yet been an official announcement of a forthcoming season, we’ll break down everything we know about Season 4 of the Apple TV+ series below!

Key Details:

  • Season 4 of “Ted Lasso” is starting pre-production in 2025.
  • Several stars of the series have had their contract options exercised.
  • Jason Sudeikis has given his ascent for another batch of episodes, though whether he’ll start in the show or not is still to be announced.

What Do We Know About ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 So Far?

Is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Really Happening?

It appears that Ted Lasso Season 4 is real, though it could still fall apart.

As mentioned above, the original plan for “Ted Lasso” was to tell a three-season story. But soon after the conclusion of Season 3, one of the show’s co-creators — and the actor behind the beloved Coach Beard character — Brendan Hunt shared his hope that the series would return.

Despite being shown on Apple TV+, “Ted Lasso” is produced by Warner Bros. Television. All along, Warner officials have pledged not to move forward with more “Ted Lasso” without the ascent of Jason Sudeikis, the show’s lead actor and another of its co-creators.

In a recent interview with Variety, Warner Bros. TV Group CEO Channing Dungey said that Sudeikis had given his approval, and is “feeling really excited” about the prospect. Dungey also said that conversations about a fourth season are in “early days,” so fans should be aware that while all signs are pointing to more episodes of “Ted Lasso,” as of now, it’s not 100% guaranteed quite yet. Season 4 has not officially been greenlit, but it sure feels like it is on the verge of happening.

When Will Season 4 of ‘Ted Lasso’ Come Out?

It's hard to say when exactly Ted Lasso Season 4 would come out, but most likely in 2026.

One source has reported that “Ted Lasso” Season 4 is due to start pre-production in January 2025. In general, a TV series takes anywhere between 12 and 16 months to release episodes from the start of pre-production.

That means that if “Ted Lasso” sticks to the reported January 2025 start date, episodes will be ready to roll out to audiences on Apple TV+ sometime in 2026. Production delays could push that window further, but that’s the most likely outcome based on current reporting. The first two seasons of the shows began airing mid-summer (Aug. 1, 2020 for Season 1 and July 23, 2021 for Season 2), while Season 3 launched on March 15, 2023. So, there’s no consistent “Ted Lasso” launch window to focus on, so presumably, Apple TV+ and WBD will set a potential Season 4 premiere for whenever makes sense for all involved.

Who Will Be In ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4?

Thanks to the exercising of some contract options of the “Ted Lasso” cast, we already know some of the characters that will likely be returning for a fourth season of the show. Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, who play AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, gruff player-turned-coach Roy Kent, and director of football operations Leslie Higgins, respectively, have all had their options for another season picked up.

Warner Bros. is still planning to talk to other actors about a return to the series, and those conversations may have already taken place. Additional cast members that are expected to be back include Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley), and Sudeikis himself. There’s no confirmation yet on whether Sudeikis will return as a main cast member, or if he will just pop in on occasion; the character’s arc seemed to have resolved fairly conclusively at the end of the show’s third season.

One cast member who has already been confirmed to not return as a series regular is Phil Dunster. The beloved actor who played Jamie Tartt is reportedly booked with other projects during the time frame when the fourth season would be shot. However, if — like Sudeikis — the storyline allows, it would make sense for Tartt to appear whenever possible after having been loaned out to play for new Sporting Kansas City head coach Ted Lasso in the MLS.

What Will ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Be About?

There are no plot details for a fourth season of Ted Lasso yet.

This is the question that’s most difficult to answer at this point since even those responsible for creating a fourth season of “Ted Lasso” likely don’t have a fully-formed idea yet. But there is plenty of room for speculation!

A new season could easily focus on the efforts of coaches Beard, Kent, and Shelley to try and take AFC Richmond all the way to the top of the EPL. “Ted Lasso” is an incredibly character-rich show thanks to the likes of Richmond players like Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) and Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández), and there are more than enough storylines to support this plotline through a season of episodes.

Alternatively, the new season could serve as a jumping off point for another show featuring many of the same characters. A season about Rebecca and Keeley’s attempts to create an AFC Richmond women’s club — a possibility teased in the Season 3 finale — would make a lot of sense, and could easily spawn future seasons.

Whatever the new season will be about, fans can be sure it will feature many of the same bittersweet themes and messages that past episodes of “Ted Lasso” offered. Keep an eye on this article for more updates, as The Streamable will post new information whenever available!
