‘Yellowstone’ Calls Off Cancelation! Original Cast Members Coming Back for Season

‘Yellowstone’ Calls Off Cancelation! Original Cast Members Coming Back for Season

A new report indicates Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will headline the show after the departure of Kevin Costner.

Yellowstone is returning for a sixth season after all, according to a shocking new report.

At what point does the behind-the-scenes drama on “Yellowstone” become more compelling than the show itself? That point could be fast approaching, as a new report from TV Line which cites information sourced from Puck News indicates that the previously-canceled series will be returning for a sixth season after all, joining new spinoffs such as “The Madison” and “6666” as Taylor Sheridan continues to grow his TV universe.

Key Details:

  • The new season of “Yellowstone” will be headlined by Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler.
  • Formerly, the two were rumored to appear on the new series “The Madison,” which recently announced its own cast.
  • Kevin Costner is still not expected to participate in the new episodes of the show.

According to TV Line’s report, the new season of “Yellowstone” will focus on newlywed couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. The end of Season 5, Part 1 saw Beth conspiring with her father John to kill Beth’s outcast brother Jamie, while Jamie himself is also scheming to rub out his father and sister in a “tragic accident.”

Former series star Kevin Costner is still not expected to return to the show in any capacity, at least not for Season 5. Costner confirmed earlier this year that he would have no part in the remaining episodes of the season, but what was before the show got an unexpected extension; perhaps his tune will change as the season moves forward. The last episodes of Season 5, Part 1 of “Yellowstone” aired on Paramount Network in January 2023, and have since become available to stream on-demand on Peacock.

The second half of Season 5 resumed production earlier this year, and Paramount Network announced in June that the episodes would begin airing there in November.

Does ‘Yellowstone’ Season 6 Mean Spinoffs Are Dead?

Even though the flagship show in the franchise is returning, there's no reason to think other

As of now, it appears the surprising return of “Yellowstone” for a sixth season will have no bearing on the other two planned spinoffs of the show. The one furthest along in its development is “The Madison,” which has announced the casting of Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett, Matthew Fox, and Amiah Mille in key roles. That show was rumored to include Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as characters, but now those plans appear to be changing.

The other “Yellowstone” spinoff currently in the works is titled “6666,” and will be set on the real Four Sixes ranch in Texas, which Sheridan now owns. The show could feature other characters from “Yellowstone,” but there have been no official casting announcements as of now.

The news that “Yellowstone” will return for a sixth season will be celebrated by fans, however, it remains to be seen if the show can continue to deliver the same level of drama and prestige now that Costner has made his exit. Season 6 of the show will air on Paramount Network, while Seasons 1 through the first part of Season 5 are now available to stream on-demand on Peacock.
