Is ‘Despicable Me 4’ Streaming Now? When Will Gru’s Latest Adventure Come to Peacock, Netflix?

Follow along with Gru and his Minions in their latest adventure, and check below to see when you’ll be able to stream it on-demand.

Get ready for a truly despicable Fourth of July weekend! “Despicable Me 4” is coming to theaters on Wednesday, July 3, and families with kids are likely already planning their trips to the theater to see it. But if you’d rather skip that hassle and stream the movie from home, check below to see when I think it will be available.

Key Details:

  • Critics praise “Despicable Me 4” as a bit formulaic, but still loveable.
  • As a Universal Pictures movie, Peacock will be the first service to stream “Despicable Me 4.”
  • After a four-month window on Peacock, the movie will shift to Netflix thanks to a licensing deal.

Check Out a Trailer for ‘Despicable Me 4’:

Gru has Lucy and his girls to look after, not to mention his army of Minions. So when his son Gru Jr. is born, it injects a new level of chaos into his villainous life. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as the littler Gru has inherited his father’s innate sense of evil. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Gru has a new rival to tangle with, and when his family is forced to go on the run he must come up with his most dastardly plan yet.

The film is sure to be a hit with kids, even if critics are somewhat lukewarm thus far. “Despicable Me 4” sits at a 56% rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, though reviewers praise the goofy charm of Gru and the Minions in the film, even if it hits some fairly familiar story beats.

When Will ‘Despicable Me 4’ Be on Peacock, Netflix?

Netflix will get Despicable Me 4 four months after it arrives to stream on Peacock.

Universal has made sure to get the most out of theatrical windows for its animated films because they don’t get a long rest on Peacock. After their runs in movie theaters, the studio’s animated movies go to premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services like Prime Video where viewers can digitally rent and purchase the films while they are still in theaters. Then, they will go to Peacock, but Universal animated movies only stay on the platform for four months before shifting to Netflix thanks to a 2021 licensing deal.

That has led recent Universal cartoon features to stay in theaters for more than 100 days each. Last year’s “Super Mario Bros. Movie” stuck in theaters for 120 days, and “Trolls Band Together” took 118 days to reach Peacock. “Kung Fu Panda 4” arrived on Peacock on June 21, 105 days after its theatrical bow.

With all of that evidence in hand, it seems virtually assured that “Despicable Me 4” will stay in theaters for 100 days or more. I’ll keep my prediction at 100 days precisely, pegging its arrival date on Peacock as Friday, Oct. 11. If that prediction is accurate, it means the film will arrive on Netflix sometime in February.
