When and Where Will ‘Monkey Man’ Be Available to Stream?

Determining the eventual streaming destination of “Monkey Man” is a simple matter. The film is being distributed by Universal Pictures in the United States, which means that it will first stream on Peacock. Once the film is has been in theaters for three to four weeks, it will next move on to premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms, these platforms, like Prime Video and [ Apple TV], let customers rent and buy movies that are otherwise solely available in cinemas.

In the past, Universal has used relatively short theatrical windows for movies before shifting them to Peacock. “Cocaine Bear,” “Violent Night” and “M3GAN” all took 49 days to head to Peacock after their theatrical debuts in late 2022 and early 2023, but there could be some evidence that the company is shifting its tactics. Its first release of this year was the horror film “Night Swim,” which arrived on Peacock on April 5, 91 days after its initial release on January 5.

The Streamable will be keeping a close eye on Universal this year, to see if its switchover to a longer pre-streaming release window is permanent. Studios usually favor these extended windows because they can make more money from PVOD platforms than they can from ticket sales in some cases, so we’ll predict that “Monkey Man” will stay off Peacock for at least 90 days from its release.

A 90-day window for “Monkey Man” would peg its arrival date on the streamer as Thursday, July 4. Since that’s a holiday in the United States, it’s likely Peacock would wait until Friday, July 5 to ensure it has the attention of audiences who want to see even more fireworks after Independence Day.
