Fire TV Now Lets You Create Unique Artwork Using AI: Here’s How

In a public testing phase currently, users can use Alexa voice commands to create their perfect piece of artwork to display on their smart TV.

With the announcement about Roku Pro TV’s new operating system that allows users to turn their TVs into art displays, you may have noticed a change to your own Amazon TV’s stationary screen in the past few months in a similar fashion. But instead of uploading images or scrolling through a catalog, the future of artistic creation comes through your voice commands. Amazon Fire TV stepped into the world of AI-generated art with its new AI Art feature, allowing users to create unique artwork using just their voice and a Fire TV device.

Key Details:

  • Amazon is introducing a new way to interact with your Fire TV.
  • Describe your artistic vision with voice prompts and let AI generate your masterpiece on your screen.
  • Choose from various artistic styles to personalize your AI-created art and save them as your background.

Ambient Aesthetics

The concept of using technology to create an aesthetically pleasing background in our homes isn’t new. For years, smart TVs have offered features that blur the line between appliance and artistic statement. Samsung's Frame TV boasts the ability to transform into a work of art when not in use, while Roku’s Pro TV offers customizable screensavers with photos and artwork. However, Fire TV’s AI Art feature takes things a step further by allowing users to actively participate in the creative process.

How Does It The Fire TV AI Art Feature Work?

Powered by a “fine-tuned Titan Image Generator model,” AI Art lets you provide verbal prompts to describe your artistic vision. Fancy a medieval castle chilling on Mars? Perhaps a cyberpunk cityscape nestled within Yosemite National Park? No problem! Just tell Alexa your desires, and the AI will generate up to four unique images based on your description.

The AI Art allows you to further refine your creations by selecting from a variety of artistic styles, such as your Martian castle displayed in pixel art or a classic oil painting. Once you’ve found your masterpiece, you can set it as your Fire TV background or save it to your Amazon Photos account.

Currently in Preview Mode

The AI Art feature is still under development, but a public preview is available for U.S. customers with a Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) or Fire TV Omni QLED Series. Amazon encourages users to experiment and provide feedback to help shape the future of this new tool.

To get started with your own version, press the Alexa button on your remote and give it a prompt to create an image or a background. If that doesn’t work, you may need to opt-in to the new feature. To do so, you should:

  1. Summon the Fire TV Ambient Experience on your device by either a.) Press the Alexa button on your remote to open the Alexa shortcut panel (From there, you should see a shortcut where you can “Open Ambient Experience”) or b.) Press and hold down the Home button on your remote (This should display shortcut options where you can select “Open Ambient Experience”).
  2. Once the Ambient Experience appears on your screen, you should see an AI Art prompt on-screen—“Try a preview of AI Art”—asking you to press OK to opt in.

Once you’ve opted-in, you can ask it to create an image for you. For example:

  • “Alexa, create an image of Stonehenge in winter.”
  • “Alexa, create a background of a medieval castle on Mars.”
  • “Alexa, create a colorful landscape image set in a fantasy world.”
  • “Alexa, create an image of a forest at sunset.”
  • “Alexa, create a picture of a hidden temple in a rainbow jungle.”

The Future of Ambient TV

AI Art is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to Fire TV’s Ambient Experience. This feature aims to transform your Fire TV from a simple streaming device into a hub for information and visual intrigue. Imagine glancing at your TV to see not just the time, but also a personalized weather forecast, upcoming calendar events, and even gallery-quality artwork – all generated by AI based on your preferences.

While Samsung’s Frame TV focuses on replicating existing works of art and Roku’s Pro TV offers basic screensaver customization, Fire TV’s AI Art feature ushers in a new era of interactive art creation through voice commands. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a curious novice, this innovative feature puts the power of artistic creation directly in your living room.
