With the opening rounds of the 2024 Australian Open beginning on Sunday, Jan. 14, there are still slots in the main draw that need to be filled. So, eight men and eight women competing in this week’s qualifying rounds will end up punching their tickets to join the rest of the field. Sunday, Jan. 7 through Wednesday, Jan. 10 will see intense action as the competitors fight for a spot in the first grand slam tournament of the season.

Some of the familiar names competing this week include Argentine player Marco Trungelliti and French player Harmony Tan who advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2022 after upsetting Serena Williams. Seventeen Australians have been awarded qualifying wildcards, boosting the number of local players across both the men’s and women’s draws to 25.
