The 2023 Houston Texans are essentially hitting the reset button. The team has a new head coach in DeMeco Ryans, and a new quarterback in 2023 second-overall pick C.J. Stroud. The team has already named Stroud as their starter, but it could be slow going for the Texans, as it is for every team that decides to make a rookie signal-caller its top man on the depth chart. Last year’s first-round pick Derek Stingley Jr. looks healthy and raring to go, and the team is anxious to see what he can bring to Ryans’ secondary.
The Baltimore Ravens weren’t sure for a minute who would be their starting quarterback this year, but were able to agree to a long-term contract with Lamar Jackson. The question now is how Jackson will gel with new receivers like Odell Beckham Jr., and if new offensive coordinator Todd Monken can really inject some fire into a passing offense that has been good, but never as spectacular as a quarterback with Jackson’s talents could and should be.
