They’re about to lace up skates on Sunday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m. ET for the first-ever “MultiVersus NHL Face-Off.” This animated rendering of a real-time Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche hockey game will use popular Warner Bros. Discovery MultiVersus icons, along with avatars of the game’s star players, including Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault, to mimic what’s happening in the real game. The National Hockey League will use two different technologies to bring the MultiVersus NHL Face-Off game to life: the NHL’s own NHL EDGE tracking technology that recreates what’s happening in real-time on the ice, along with Hawk-Eye Innovations optical tracking tech that will generate the realistic character and player avatar action to mimic the real movements of NHL players in the game. And it won’t just be the players getting an animated refresh – the rink will get one too. The animated telecast will incorporate dynamic, rotating elements inspired by environments from the MultiVersus game, including the Space Jam Court, Adventure Time Tree Fort, and Sky Arena.

When it comes to the call, Steve Mears has the play-by-play, with Colby Armstrong picking up the color commentary. They’ll also handle the first and second intermissions, providing analysis of the game between the Avalanche and Golden Knights. If you want to catch the traditional broadcast of the game – minus the superheroes - it will be available on TNT and Max.
