Your favorite foul-mouthed bear is back — this time in a TV series. A Peacock prequel series to the hit movie franchise of a similar, yet differently capitalized, name premieres on Thursday, Jan. 11. This new show from the mind of Seth MacFarlane, simply called “ted,” takes place in 1993, where Ted the Bear — his 15 minutes of fame now behind him — is living at home with his best-friend, 16-year-old John Bennett. You can guess what kind of hijinks they’ll get up to, but at the end of the day, Ted is still the loyal (and hilariously vulgar) friend that we’ve always known him to be. About ‘ted’ Series Premiere
“ted” debuts all seven episodes of its first season on Jan. 11, with a “supersized” premiere episode, followed by six 30-minute episodes. Set in Boston, the series follows Ted (voiced by McFarland) through his high school years, as he navigates his relationship with his best friend, John (Max Burkholder), as well as John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach), and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham).
Creator Seth MacFarlane, who serves as the voice of Ted, and says that the series “is based on the timeless truth that being sixteen sucks. The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use.”
The “Ted” movie franchise has been a hit since it first premiered in 2012 it’s no surprise NBCUniversal is giving it the series treatment. The original “Ted” film starred MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, and Mila Kunis and grossed $549.4 million worldwide at the box office on a budget of just $50 million. The sequel, “Ted 2,” came along in 2015, and made $216.7 million on a budget of $68 million.
