Peacock at work on movie reboot of supernatural series ‘Grimm’
The series originally ran for six seasons on NBC.
Like an unkillable Wesen, NBC’s popular TV series “Grimm” appears to be rising from the grave. That’s according to a report from Variety, which says that Peacock is hard at work on a “Grimm” movie. Characterized as a reboot of the supernatural cop show, most of the movie’s details are being kept tightly under wraps for the moment.
Key Details:
- Original showrunners and executive producers from the “Grimm” series are working on the movie.
- The original series focuses on a homicide detective who discovers descended from a long line of guardians of the supernatural world.
- Viewers can stream the “Grimm” TV show in its entirety on Peacock.
The “Grimm” movie is being brought to life by many of the creatives who were responsible for the original show. Showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, as well as executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, are coming back to lend their talents to the film.
There are no details available yet on the plot of the movie, or on whether original cast members will return. Since the movie is a reboot, there exists the possibility that a ravenous appetite for it could lead to new episodes of the series being greenlit, though Variety’s report makes no mention of any intention to switch back to a TV format once the film is released.
“Grimm” ran for six seasons on NBC, from 2011 to 2017. The supernatural drama series centers on Detective Nick Burkhardt, who discovers that he is descended from a long line of guardians who protect humanity from supernatural creatures. Known as Grimms, these guardians have defended humans from the dreaded Wesens since the depths of time.
The revival of “Grimm” is somewhat reminiscent of the way “Suits” recaptured the imagination of audiences years after it went off the air. “Suits” became so popular after debuting on Netflix that it too has been revived in the form of a spinoff series called “Suits LA,” which debuts on Peacock in February.
Viewers can stream all six seasons of “Grimm” on Peacock now. Plans start at $8 per month, or viewers can upgrade to ad-free streaming for $14.
