Is Zendaya’s Tennis Movie ‘Challengers’ Streaming Yet? When Will it Come to Prime Video?

Zendaya is ready to serve up some love, and a few nasty tennis shots as well in her newest movie “Challengers.” The film has seen its release date bounce around and was due to premiere in theaters in September 2023 before seeing the date shift because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes to Friday, April 26, 2024.

Tennis player turned coach Tashi (Zendaya) has taken her husband Art (Mike Faist) and transformed him into a world-famous Grand Slam champion. To snap him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level possible for a professional tennis tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor). Worlds collide, old feelings are reignited, and Tashi must ask herself what she’s truly willing to do to win.

“Challengers” has accrued a critical score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s critical consensus calls the movie a “kinetic and sexy romp,” and singles out the performances of Zendaya as well as Faist and O’Connor as reasons the movie really shines.

When and Where Will ‘Challengers’ Stream?

“Challengers” is being distributed by Amazon MGM Studios in the United States, so there’s a possibility it will end up streaming on Prime Video or MGM+ once the company decides the film has made all the money it can from ticket sales and digital rentals/purchases on premium video-on-demand platforms.

The length of that window could be a bit more difficult to determine. Amazon and MGM don’t mind giving their films a long lead-in to streaming; “Creed III” took 98 days after its March 2023 theatrical debut to reach Prime Video, and “Guy Ritchie's The Covenant” did not hit the streamer until 157 days after its April 2023 premiere. It seems likely that “Challengers” will get at least 100 days to pull in ticket and PVOD revenues before streaming on Prime Video, and given the pattern of releases from the studio of late it would likely stay there exclusively for a month before premiering on MGM+.

Ultimately, The Streamable predicts that “Challengers” will split the difference between release windows for “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant” and “Creed III,” and will take 125 days to come to an on-demand streaming service. That pegs its arrival date on Prime Video as August 29, which means it will likely show up on MGM+ in late September.
