‘SpongeBob’-Themed Super Bowl Simulcast Coming to Nickelodeon; Channel Will Also Get ‘Nickmas’ NFL Game

Allegiant Stadium, which will host the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII may be in the desert, but it will also be transported under the sea during the big game! Paramount Global has announced that SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and other friends will be at the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, 2024 for a special “SpongeBob Squarepants“-themed simulcast of the game.

  • “SpongeBob” Super Bowl telecast will be exclusively available on Nickelodeon.
  • Nickelodeon will also present “Nickmas” game between Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs with special appearances from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” characters.
  • Paramount and Disney have both made moves to attract younger audiences to football using high-profile characters.

Merry Nickmas, and a SpongeBob Super Bowl-Pants New Year!

The Super Bowl telecast will bring Bikini Bottom to Vegas! Nickelodeon is the only place to see the special “SpongeBob”-ified broadcast, which will see characters from the show like SpongeBob and Patrick helping Nate Burleson and Noah Eagle call the game. Sandy Cheeks will report all the latest injury and player updates from the sideline, while fellow Nickelodeon characters Dorah the Explorer and Boots will serve as rules analysts. CBS and Paramount+ will both offer the standard telecast of the Super Bowl live.

Don’t want to wait for the big game to see your favorite NFL players get covered in Nickelodeon slime? No worries, because the NFL is partnering with the channel for another edition of “Nickmas,” this time featuring the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. ET. “NFL Slimetime” host Dylan Schefter will be sideline reporter, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Raphael and Donatello will also be on hand!

NFL’s Relentless Pursuit of Younger Viewers

Disney's Toy Story themed NFL game

The two special NFL presentations heading to Nickelodeon are just the latest example of that league’s clear desire to attract younger viewers. The NFL partnered with Disney earlier this year to offer an animated version of a game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons that featured characters and settings from the “Toy Story” franchise.

Nickelodeon has offered themed NFL games in the past as well. In addition to these more gimmicky plays for younger audiences, the NFL launched its streaming service NFL+ last year in order to attract youthful and tech-savvy fans. YouTube users can also now access NFL content to create their own Shorts with it, which is crucial as Gen Z viewers stream more on YouTube than they do on subscription platforms like Netflix.

Super Bowl LVIII will be presented on CBS and Paramount+ live on Feb. 11, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the standard telecast on those platforms, or they can head to Nickelodeon to watch the special “SpongeBob Squarepants” presentation of the game.

Paramount Plus

Paramount+ is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 40,000+ TV show episodes from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and more. The lineup includes “1883,” “Tulsa King,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “PAW Patrol.” Subscribers can watch the NFL, college football, The Masters, college basketball, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa, Serie A, and NWSL. The service also offers the option to watch your live CBS affiliate. The upgraded ad-free package includes premium movies and shows from Showtime.

Subscribers can choose between the Essential Plan (which includes ads) for $5.99/month, or go commercial-free and add more movies with Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for $11.99/month.

Subscribers to the more expensive plan will also get access to your local CBS affiliate to stream your local news, prime-time lineup, and late-night. You will also be able to download offline and watch select shows in 4K.

With the lower-cost “Essential” plan, you will still be able to watch live NFL games, Champions League, and national news – but you will no longer get your local CBS affiliate.

With their new app, enjoy advanced recommendations, curated homepages, and new content categories while still being able to stream major live sports like NFL, College Football, College Basketball. Sports fans will also appreciate the service’s inclusion of NFL on CBS, PGA Tour, along with every match of UEFA Champions League and Serie A.

The service was previously called CBS All Access.
