Will 2024 AFC, NFC Championship Games Be Available in 4K?

Ultra-High-Definition 4K is the ultimate way to watch live sports, but will this year’s Super Bowl lead-in games be available in this resolution?

The Super Bowl is nearly here! Super Bowl LVIII from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is scheduled for Feb. 11, but before the game is played, the two teams playing in it have to be determined! They’ll be decided on Sunday, Jan. 28 when the NFL’s AFC and NFC Championship games are played.

  • The 2024 AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on CBS will not be available to watch or stream in 4K.
  • The NFC Championship between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers is on Fox, and will be broadcast in 4K.
  • There are several live TV streaming services, including DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo and YouTube TV that will allow fans to watch the NFC Championship game in 4K.

Are 2024 AFC, NFC Championship Games Broadcast in 4K?

The 2024 AFC Championship game is being broadcast on CBS, which does not typically air any live events or other content in 4K. The channel will offer one big event in 4K for the first time this year: Super Bowl LVIII, which will be the first 4K feed of a Super Bowl CBS’s history this year. Barring any last-minute word from CBS, however, fans should not anticipate being able to stream the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens in 4K. Fans can watch the AFC Championship on CBS, or stream it live on Paramount+.

The NFC Championship is a different story. That game will air on Fox, which is broadcasting all NFL playoff games on its airwaves in 4K this season, and that pattern will continue with the NFC Championship between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. There will be several ways to watch the game in 4K, and The Streamable will break them all down for you below.

How to Stream 2024 NFC Championship Game in 4K

There are a total of three live TV streaming services which carry Fox and will be offering the NFC Championship game in 4K. Our favorite is DIRECTV STREAM, which offers live 4K sports on channel 105 and includes the ability to stream events offered in UHD on every plan. DIRECTV STREAM comes with a five-day free trial, as well, so you can watch the NFC Championship for free this weekend. Plans to DIRECTV STREAM start at $79.99 per month, but new customers can save $25 per month for two months on the Choice plan and enjoy the NHL and NBA regular seasons though their local regional sports network in addition to the NFC Championship!

Fubo also offers select events in 4K for subscribers of its Elite and Premier plans ($109.98 per month and up), and it too offers a free trial. The length of that trial depends on what time of month you subscribe to Fubo and can be as short as one day, however, so we can’t recommend it as highly as DIRECTV STREAM. It will allow you to watch the NFC Championship game in UHD 4K, but your free trial may not last long enough to carry you through to Sunday.

YouTube TV does not offer the same free trial to all new subscribers, so it comes last on our list of services you can use to stream the NFC Championship game in 4K. Its plans start at $72.99 per month, but you’ll need to pay an extra $9.99 per month to watch the NFC Championship game in UHD using the 4K Plus add-on.

What is 4K, and Why is it Ideal for Watching Sports?

Every NFL fan knows that it’s a game of inches. In a contest as important as the NFC Championship game where a Super Bowl trip is on the line, being able to see the action on the field clearly is critical for audiences. Being able to identify if a player’s knee was down before a fumble or if they dragged their toe when going out-of-bounds is an important part of watching NFL games from home, and that’s why 4K is so important.

Ultra-High-Definition 4K displays offer 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, which is the highest screen resolution widely available to consumers. It’s a great way for watching any live sporting event, but for one as important as the 2024 NFC Championship game, fans should seek out any available method for watching in 4K!

Can You Watch 2024 NFC Championship in 4K on Fox Sports App?

Yes! If you have a cable, satellite or live TV streaming subscription that allows you to log into the Fox Sports app with TV Everywhere credentials, you can use it to stream the 2024 NFC Championship game in 4K.

  • DIRECTV STREAM

DIRECTV STREAM is a live TV streaming service, which is essentially the streaming version of the DIRECTV service. All packages include local channels and at least 31 of the top 35 cable channels. New subscribers can get a free Gemini streaming device from the company, in which case the service is called “DIRECTV via Internet.”

DIRECTV STREAM starts at $79.99 / month for their Entertainment package. You can upgrade to their Choice package, which begins at $108.99 / month, that includes your local RSN and HBO Max for three months. They also have an Ultimate ($119.99) for 130 channels and Premier ($164.99) for 140 channels. In addition to not having a contract, there are no extra RSN fees or Broadcast TV fee.

The service includes an Unlimited DVR on all packages and unlimited simultaneous at-home streams.

The service was previously called AT&T TV.

  • Fubo

Fubo is a live TV streaming service with about 90 top channels that start at $79.99 per month. This plan includes local channels, 25 of the top 35 cable channels, and regional sports networks (RSNs). In total, you should expect to pay about $91.99 per month, after adding in their RSN Fee. Fubo was previously known as “fuboTV.”

The streaming service does not carry channels from WarnerMedia-owned (CNN, TBS, and TNT), A+E (A&E, History Channel, and Lifetime), and AMC Networks (AMC, BBC America, and WE tv). So, in our experience, if you are looking to watch the NBA, which heavily plays on TBS and TNT, you may want to look at another live TV streaming provider.

But for other sports fans, especially those who want to stream local sports, Fubo is a great option in our opinion. They recently announced adding Bally Sports RSNs to their channel lineup and it is the least expensive option to get RSNs in many markets like Altitude, AT&T Sports, Fox Sports, Marquee, MSG, NBC Sports, and NESN. (Take a look at the full list of Fubo’s sports channels.)

Fubo also includes MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NFL RedZone , NHL Network, and beIN Sports (which is not available on most services). You can add Fox Soccer Plus as part of the International Sports Plus add-on for $6/month.

You can add the fubo Extra ($8) to add ~43 channels including Cooking Channel and GSN.

  • YouTube TV

YouTube TV is a live TV streaming service with more than 60 channels for $72.99/month. This plan includes local channels, 32 of the top 35 cable channels, and regional sports networks (RSNs) in select markets. The service includes an unlimited DVR.

With the recent addition of Viacom channels (BET, MTV, Comedy Central, etc.) to the service, they are only without Hallmark and A+E Networks (Lifetime, History, A&E).

They recently added NFL Network and new Sports Plus add-on which include channels like NFL RedZone for $11 a month.

YouTube TV offers select 4K content, including some live sports and on-demand shows, as part of their 4K Plus add-on. The 4K Plus add-on is $9.99 a month and also includes offline downloads and unlimited streams on your home network.

If you want a cheaper service with many of the entertainment channels on YouTube TV, you can subscribe to Philo which includes A+E, Discovery, Viacom, Hallmark, and other channels for just $20 a month after a 7-Day Free Trial.
