Which streaming services will carry the most Awards contenders?
The Golden Globe nominations are coming up tonight, and the Oscars won’t be far behind.
The onset of 2025 means that it’s almost time to honor the best movies of 2024! Films like “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” Netflix’s “Emilia Pérez,” and others figure to be top contenders for Golden Globes and Academy Awards, and many of them are already available to stream on-demand. Find out which streaming services are carrying the most award contender movies and how to subscribe to them below!
Which movies are best for streaming 2024 movie awards contenders
Which movies are most likely to be nominated for awards in 2025?
For the purposes of this exercise, I decided to check with Variety and see which movies it felt were the best contenders for Best Picture Oscars in the coming year. Its list includes: “Wicked,” “Emilia Pérez,” “Conclave,” “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “Dune: Part Two,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Sing Sing,” “A Real Pain,” and “The Substance.”
These obviously aren’t all the movies that will take home awards in 2025, but as the most likely to win a Best Picture, I thought they were the best place to start when running through the streamers that will carry them.
Top choice: Prime Video
Because some of these movies aren’t ready to stream with a subscription yet, Prime Video is the best place to find as many contenders as possible. Among other things, Prime Video is a premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platform, which means it allows you to rent or buy digital copies of movies that are otherwise only available in theaters. If the contender you want to see isn’t streaming with a subscription on your favorite service, check out Prime Video; it’s probably available there!
Hulu
Hulu is a pretty key streamer to have for awards bait movies this year. Not only will it carry Searchlight Pictures titles like “A Complete Unknown” and “A Real Pain,” it also gets Neon movies when they are ready to leave theaters, so “Anora” will stream there too. Hulu is also streaming the Oscars live in 2025, so you’ll be able to see some of the nominated films and the awards themselves with this service.
Max
Max is the first stop for A24 movies when they leave theaters, so having it to watch “The Brutalist” and “Sing Sing” will be key for audiences. “Dune: Part Two” is already available to stream there, and you can even bundle it with Hulu in the Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle starting at $17 per month for all three services.
Other key streamers
Peacock will get both “Wicked” and “Conclave” once they’re ready to stream with a subscription, and Netflix is the exclusive home of “Emilia Pérez.” Audiences can get them as standalone subscriptions, but Xfinity TV and internet customers can also sign up for the StreamSaver bundle starting at $15 per month to get access to both, as well as Apple TV+.
Paramount doesn’t have as many awards contenders this year as it has in years past, but its streamer Paramount+ will offer “Gladiator II” and “September 5” when they become available on-demand.
