Diamond Sports Group Wins Approval To Exit Bankruptcy
Diamond Sports Group is returning to the playing field. The regional sports network (RSN) broadcaster, which has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings since March 2023, announced this Thursday it has won approval for its reorganization plan, receiving near-unanimous support from its various creditors. The company will finish its restructuring to exit bankruptcy in the coming weeks and continue as a going concern to offer local games from 13 NBA, eight NHL, and six MLB teams.
Diamond had a busy week ahead of its confirmation vote. The company announced a new long-in-the-making distribution deal with Prime Video that will allow its 16 RSNs under the newly-branded FanDuel Sports Network (formerly Bally Sports Channels) to be shown in their various markets as a streamer add-on.
Diamond also announced three new MLB partnerships with the Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, and Detroit Tigers, joining the Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and, most notably, the Atlanta Braves in recent go-forward arrangements. Diamond had initially announced its intentions to drop all MLB partner clubs except the Atlanta Braves last month, leading to objections from the league, but earlier this week, MLB withdrew its opposition to Diamond’s plan to continue offering Braves games.

What To Stream This Weekend: “Dune: Prophecy” Premiere
While the two-part, billion-dollar film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” starring Timothée Chalamet has finished its journey, there are still plenty of stories with the Dune-iverse to tell. Before Denis Villeneuve’s movie franchise continues with his “Dune Messiah” adaptation, HBO is bringing us “Dune: Prophecy,” premiering this weekend.
The prequel series will begin long before the days of Paul Atreides— 10,000 years before, in fact, exploring the rise of House Atreides and its rivalry with House Harkonnen as the fabled Bene Gesserit begins its influence.
Based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, “Dune: Prophecy” follows sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen “as they navigate ancient feuds and political conspiracies to establish the foundations of the sisterhood.”
Emily Watson stars as Valya, a determined and visionary figure, opposite Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen: Olivia Williams plays Tula, her fiercely loyal and brilliant sister. The series will also star Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jade Anouka, and more.
