What’s the Best Way to Stream 2024-25 NHL Season Streaming Options

The puck is about to drop on the 2024-25 NHL season, with the New Jersey Devils and the Buffalo Sabres kicking things off in Prague on Friday, Oct. 4 before the rest of the league ramps up on Tuesday, Oct. 8. There’s been plenty of shuffling when it comes to broadcast rights in the NHL and it can be confusing trying to figure out the best way to stream the 2024-25 NHL season. But have no fear, The Streamable is here to break down your options.

All the ways to stream the 2024-25 NHL Regular Season:

How To Watch The 2024-25 NHL Regular Season

Nationally broadcast NHL games for the 2024-2025 NHL season will appear on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and TBS, while local NHL team games are picked up by regional sports networks (RSNs) that own the broadcast rights to a particular team.

The best choice for most hockey fans is DIRECTV STREAM, because it offers ABC, ESPN, and TNT, along with access to the most RSNs of any live TV streaming service in their “Choice Plan” starting at $109 per month. If you live in the team’s local area, you’ll get access to:

Top Choice for Watching the 2024 NHL Season: DIRECTV STREAM

DIRECT STREAM is our favorite way to watch in-market games during the NHL regular season because of how many RSNs they offer in the “Choice Plan” for $109 per month. It carries all the channels you need to watch nationally broadcast NHL games, along with in-market RSN when you upgrade to the “Choice Plan” that also gets you MLB Network, NBA TV, and NFL Network. If you want, you can also add the NHL Network if you go up a level to the “Ultimate Plan” for $120 per month. Plus, It comes with a great offer for new subscribers: $15 off per month for their first two months of service, and it also carries a five-day free trial. DIRECTV STREAM has all 35 of The Streamable’s top cable channels available, and it’s a supreme choice for watching NHL hockey all season long.

Good Option for Sports Fans: Fubo

If DIRECTV STREAM isn’t right for you, it’s worth checking out Fubo. Fubo is great for sports fans who want to stream the NHL games, along with MLB and NBA games because it offers ABC and ESPN for nationally broadcast games and carries regional sports networks (RSNs) for 98% of American viewers, offering local coverage for 18 NHL teams: Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning.

And it’s a little cheaper than the “Choice Plan” at DIRECTV STREAM, with Fubo plans starting at $80 per month, plus the RSN fee that most viewers will have to pay. However, the downside is that it doesn’t carry TBS or TruTV in any of its regions, which means you’d have to grab a subscription to Max with the Bleacher Report add-on to catch games appearing there. Fubo offers new customers a free trial, though the length of that trial depends on what time of month you sign up for the service.

Must-Have Streaer for Out-of-Market Games: ESPN+

Now, for hockey fans who are looking to watch a team that is not in their local broadcast area, ESPN+ is the subscription you need. Keep in mind that nationally televised games are still blacked out on the service, but when your team is not a part of a national broadcast, you’ll find the game on ESPN+. Depending on what team you root for, there might not be a large number of games on national channels like ESPN, NHL Network, and TNT, but even if there are, if you don’t live near your favorite team, ESPN+ is a must-have to make sure that you don’t miss any of the action on the ice.

ESPN+ is the home to out-of-market NHL games with thousands of matchups available on the platform. Keep in mind that if the game you’re looking for is a national broadcast or is available in your area on a regional sports network (because your favorite team is playing against a club from your area), it will be blacked out on the service. But for out-of-market NHL fans, it’s a must-have subscription. ESPN+ costs $11 per month (going up to $12 per month) in October.

Other Options for Watching 2024-25 NHL Games

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Hulu + Live TV?

Yes, you can watch all the nationally televised NHL games this season on Hulu + Live TV as it carries ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, and TNT, but it doesn’t have a great offering of local RSNs. It carries RSNs from NBC Sports as well as Monumental Sports Network, but none of the Fox Sports or Bally Sports channels. However, if you live out-of-market for your favorite team, a subscription to Hulu + Live TV includes Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu — a $15 monthly value - for free, so it could make sense if you live out of market. Subscriptions start at $77 per month but are going up to $83 in October.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Sling TV?

You can watch nationally broadcast NHL games with Sling TV on ABC (or on ESPN3 if you’re not a territory with ABC), ESPN, and TNT but the service does not carry any regional sports networks. That means if you live in your favorite NHL team’s local area, you’ll have to look elsewhere to catch their games.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Peacock?

No, Peacock will not carry any 2024 NHL Regular Season. While Peacock does simulcast select sporting events that appear on NBC, that’s not one of the broadcasters for the NHL regular season.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Max?

Yes, all the NHL Regular Season games that appear on TruTV or TBS will also appear on Max with the Bleacher Report add-on. A subscription to Max starts at $10 per month, and includes the Bleacher Report add-on for now. Keep in mind that soon, Max will start charging for it.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Prime Video?

No, you can’t watch 2024-25 NHL games on Prime Video. While Prime Video did pick up some NHL broadcasts in Canada this year, it did not do the same in the U.S. Don’t be surprised is Prime Video does add some coverage in the future, though, especially after picking up rights to NFL and MLB games in recent years.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on Hulu?

Yes, some of the nationally broadcast NHL games on ESPN / ESPN2 or ABC will appear on Hulu. But if you’re looking for more comprehensive coverage of your team or the NHL season, you’re better off looking at other options.

Can You Watch NHL Regular Season Games on YouTube TV

YouTube TV doesn’t offer any of the Bally Sports RSNs, making it a poor choice for watching in-market NHL games for those markets. Plus, it doesn’t offer a standardized free trial for all new subscribers and it doesn’t include any free streaming services in its $73 monthly subscription price. For NHL fans, you’re better off looking elsewhere.
